Memorial for Wes Bateman

Saturday morning, we checked out of the Radisson Hotel and made our way across the Bay Bridge to Oakland for the memorial. We arrived early so Cynthia could help with the preparations. I, of course, wandered around with my camera. There were quite a few people preparing food and putting out displays which showed some of Wes's life.
Quite a few folks who used to attend this old church with Wes showed up to honor his memory. Some of them had not seen each other in decades. He touched many people with his kindness and love of Jesus Christ.
'ol squinty (Rob McNeil) helped with visuals.Kathy and Sue with their mother, Alice Bateman.Cynthia reviewed some of the grandchildren's favorite memories to share with the guests.
Sharing memories of Wes...Sue has started putting together Wes's biography. The three children, Sue,Kathy, and Dave, shared excerpts with the attendees.
Even though I only met Wes once, we had a love of photography in common.

Some final thoughts...We all met in the church cafeteria after the memorial to have some ice cream and sharing. Wes certainly lived a very full and interesting life. He made quite a mark on many lives and I was happy to see how many came together in joy rather than grief. I learned alot about Cynthia's grandfather, but it was fun to see how much family members who had know him all their lives learned about him.

Thank you to all the family members who made me feel so welcome and let me take pictures. It is truly a blessing to love not only your wife, but her family as well. M
